Maike Abetz and Oliver Drescher met at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf in 1994, where they both studied under Alfonso Hüppi1 during different semesters. In 1995, they moved to Berlin together to study with Katharina Sieverding through 1997 at the Hochschule der Künste. They have been working as an artist duo since 1995, creating collaborative works of art under the name Abetz & Drescher. The couple’s new beginning in Berlin, which ran parallel to the post-reunification dynamics of the city, was decisive in shaping their painting career, artistic development, and recognizable visual language.
